La Bastille is thought to have been built in 1100’s with the cornerstones of the old castle dating back to 1029 being part of a castle build in the village. It was named La Bastille after reportedly becoming a home for prisoners of war during the French invasion of Fishguard in 1797, the last invasion of the UK, and has been meticulously restored by its current owner in 2022 to a very high standard throughout.

For outdoor enthusiasts, a 5-minute drive away is Llys-y-Frân Lake which includes both water and land-based recreational fun including sailing, kayaking, canoeing, stand up paddle and pedal boarding, cycling, pump skills track, bike hire, axe and knife throwing, how to fire a crossbow or have a go at archery.
The Pembrokeshire coastline is only a 40 minutes’ drive away where you can visit Amroth, Saundersfoot and Tenby, with beaches to relax on, build sandcastles or enjoy water sports. A visit to the resort town of Tenby would not be complete without a memorable boat trip to Caldey Island, where visitors can share the serenity of the Cistercian monks, who have made this holy island home for hundreds of years. For a family day out, visit the awarding-winning leisure attractions of Oakwood, Heatherton and Folly Farm, all within a 40-minute drive.
