Enjoy a 3.5-mile hike to the magnificent Aira Force waterfall, a spectacular cascade that plunges 65 feet, or drive to the charming village of Pooley Bridge (5 miles) for river walks, local shops, and cosy teahouses. Alternatively, head into Glenridding (5.5 miles), a hub for outdoor adventurers, where you can hire a kayak or hop aboard a classic Ullswater Steamer. Head into Penrith (11 miles) to channel your inner artist at the Crafty Monkeys pottery studio, or check out the work of local artisans at the Rheged Centre – an impressive cultural hub located in Britain’s largest grass-covered building.
