Positive: Our stay at Englefield was nothing short of perfect. We honestly cannot fault it. Steve and Liz were excellent hosts and I almost feel as though we left as friends. Engelfield is a stunning property, made unique with Steve's priceless collection of original enamel signs and vintage memorabilia. Everywhere you look you'll see cigarette vending machines, ride on horses, tin signs, and antique toys. It's like staying in your own private museum! We stayed in the 'Heartbeat suite' which was immaculate and very comfortable. We had our own bathroom, which was across the hallway, on the ground floor of the accommodation. Breakfast was served in a communal dining room which looked out over fields, with horses and deer running free. We had a good selection of cereals, toast, and a delicious full cooked breakfast every morning. Englefield is well situated in the small village of Goathland. The shops are a short walk up the road, as are the iconic locations from the popular television series 'Heartbeat'. A little further down the hill is the heritage railway station, famous for doubling as 'Hogsmeade' in the Harry Potters films. Evening meals are best served at the 'Inn on the Moor' hotel, behind Scripps Garage. Even if you are a fan of the Heartbeat series, the Goathland Hotel is best avoided. If you are looking for something a little different, the Birch Hall Inn over in nearby Beck Hole is like stepping back in time. Check the opening times before attempting the walk. The beer is strong, so leave the car back at Englefield!
