Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: Good shower, nice layout, comfy sofa and arm chairs. Kitchen area good apart from VERY small fridge. We arrived with food shopping for our week’s stay and could only get some of it in the small under counter fridge as almost a third of the space was taken up with a freezer compartment which we didn’t use. The surrounding countryside was beautiful and we enjoyed seeing the horses from the back door each day. We had no issues with the narrow road up to the property and only had to reverse back to a passing place once in our 7 day stay. The site was very quiet apart from noise from the nearby M4.

Negative: Strangely, only two out of the three beds had mattress toppers on ( they were comfortable) so one of the twin beds was very uncomfortable with a very saggy, lumpy, uneven mattress with no back support. The very small fridge space meant we had to do frequent small food shops. First impressions of the outside area, in front of the cottage, weren’t great. It looked untidy and dirty. The noise from the nearby M4 was bothersome to start but we sort of got used to it. That said the weather was pretty wet so we didn’t use the back outside area at all where it would have been the noisiest. The WI-FI was very unpredictable but we had good 4g/5g coverage on our phones. Trying to watch anything on the TV was challenging and we just gave up and enjoyed playing card and board games we’d brought with us.

Summary: Could have been better, could have been worse. We ‘grew into’ our stay at Myrtle Cottage.
