Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: Location was a short walk to the town centre and other local sites and amenities. Pleasant and stylish reception. Nice monogrammed towels, dressing gown etc. Bed was wonderfully crisp, clean and comfortable. Good quality toiletries. Next to a nice pub. Lift to all floors. Let us leave our bags.

Negative: Made us wait every minute until 3pm to get to our rooms. Time stated was 3pm, but they said they were short of housekeeping staff. My room (301) was right next to the lift which is very noisy when in use. Great big juddering bang when it reaches GF. 2 of our rooms had a very noisy fridges housing refreshments. No natural light in my room with one tiny high up window. Other room had 2 even smaller high up windows with no natural light. Room very warm even with radiator off but they did have a pedestal fan which was too noisy to sleep with. Shower tray was dangerously slippery with no shower mat. Nowhere to put shower toiletries as shower shelf was broken. Basin filled up with water and didn't drain with tap on full. Dents scrapes and holes in the room walls. Room felt claustrophobic. Breakfast was chaotic as it appeared one person was serving, taking orders AND cooking. Gave up waiting for a cooked breakfast. Call themselves a 'boutique hotel'...but monogrammed items, some posh toiletries and some sweets on the reception desk don't really make it that IMO. Didn't warrant the £92.00 a night in our opinion, and it seems they don't employ enough staff to cover Sunday mornings. Took £50 deposit to cover any irregularities with mini-bar with no alcohol. Previous reviews suggest it takes a while to be returned...so be sure to check....we will. A lot of the negatives we found were mentioned in historical reviews, which suggests they are not acting on complaints. A bit of maintenance and a wash and brush up and a look at staffing levels would make a world of difference. You get a welcoming letter - when I got home I found that it also had a survey form with it. Hopefully they might take a bit more notice of this than the Booking.com reviews.
